JOIN US ON AUGUST 7TH FOR THE ANNUAL
                     "WHEELS N WINGS" FESTIVAL
                      AT YOUR VAN WERT AIRPORT

WHEELS N WINGS 2009 A REAL SUCCESS - 2010 WHEELS AND WINGS IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER
                    SATURDAY AUGUST 7TH -
WOW what a nice turn out we had for the 2009 Wheels N Wings Festival!
Over 1,000 visitors (some say over 1,500) came to see the Huey 369 and have a day of FUN. We honored a veteran of each war from WWII to Desert Storm with a Honor Flight in the Huey and a service and recognition for all Vets with a flag ceremony, words from the State Commander of the VFW and a 21 Gun solute to our fallen veterans. Kids offered smiles all day with the rides, complete with the barrel train and a candy drop via parachutes dropped from a real airplane.
Everybody loved the aircraft on display which included the "Grimes Flying Lab"s a restored C-45 H Model; the T-50 "Bamboo Bomber" a WWII Bomber/Trainer) and the "O-2" Cessna 337 used in Viet Nam as an observation and tactical war machine. Several replica Remote Control Aircraft filled the sky's with aerobatic performances including a helicopter and jet performance.
Food vendors had to resupply to keep up with the demand and the Tupperware and jewelry vendors said “sign me up for next year.”  Sky Diving lasted throughout the day where the first jumper displayed the US Flag for our Noon ceremony. All had food and fun which made my day seem to go by in a matter of minutes. What a day! Thank You ALL!  Tom Dunno, Airport Manager

The Van Wert County Airport would like to welcome our newest commercial venture “FLY 4 FUN”. Mr. Randy Thompson has begun a training facility to address the newly created “Sport Pilot” Certificate. Mr. Thompson is a certified Sport Pilot Instructor and he uses a fun light aircraft called the Ercoupe. I have flown it myself and it really is fun.

LEARN MORE ABOUT AN EXCITING CAREER IN AVIATION! THERE IS ALL KINDS OF HELP OUT THERE AND AT YOUR LOCAL AIRPORT. THE EAA.ORG (those who bring you one of the largest aircraft events in the US – OSHKOSH AIR VENTURE) IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST PROMOTERS OF AVIATION AND BIG SPONSORS OF YOUTH IN AVIATION AND THEY ARE ONLY A MOUSE CLICK AWAY. SEARCH THIS WEB SITE, www.youngeagles.org, AND LOOK AT THE TAB LABLED “CAREERS” OR VISIT THE VAN WERT COUNTY AIRPORT FOR A DISPLAY OF CAREERS, SALARIES AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS.

WOW! The new SPORT PILOT SCHOOL “FLY-4-FUN” is staying busy. Two new Pilots have already soloed. Congratulations to David Mills and John Gamble who have each completed their solo flights; just Man and Machine.

TOM would like to talk to anybody interested in ROTORCRAFT. I have always been amazed by the capabilities of Helicopters and Gyro-Copters. There are currently "zero-none" on the filed at this time and I would love to see that change. I have flown helicopters since I was a teenager and would like to form a group of interested members for a local organization of ROTOR-HEADS.

HANGARS AVAILABLE: We had a long time renter move away, leaving a "T" Hangar available at $125.00. Also, Ben Spearman has sold his airplane opening upo a T-Hangar at $110.00 rental rate.
