Meet the Treasurer
The Honorable Beverly A Fuerst is serving her third term as treasurer of Van Wert County after her appointment in 2002 to fulfill the unexpired term of Treasurer Harold L. Markle. Treasurer Fuerst is the 25th Treasurer for Van Wert County and the first woman Treasurer for Van Wert County.
Treasurer Fuerst worked 7.5 years in the County Treasurer’s Office prior to her appointment as well as 20 years in the customer service field and had the opportunity to work with a U.S. Representative while residing in Columbus. Treasurer Fuerst is a graduate of Columbus Business University and Delphos St. John’s High School. She attends numerous continuing education classes with the State Treasurer and State Auditor offices.
The major responsibility of the County Treasurer is the collection of various taxes. The County Treasurer receives all the monies collected by other County departments and prepares a daily financial statement which needs to be balanced daily with the County Auditor. In addition the Treasurer manages the County’s investment portfolio.
By Law the Treasurer serves on numerous Boards including: Investment Advisory Board; Board of Revision; Data Processing Board; Micrographics Board; and the County Budget Commission. Treasurer Fuerst has been active in numerous service organizations: Member of Van Wert Rotary, Van Wert County Farm Bureau, Twig III (Past President & Past Secretary), Past President of the YMCA Board of Directors, member of the Finance Committee at St. Mary’s Catholic Church along with serving on the Van Wert Community Improvement Corporation and the Revolving Loan Committee.
Treasurer Fuerst and her husband Duane (Dewey) reside in Van Wert and have two grown sons and two grandsons.
